How It Works:
Fun Weekly Classes
We meet once a week for a 30 min private lesson and for a fun 50 minute group lesson
Equipment
If you are in the Wee Violin group class, your child will begin on a box violin.
If they are starting lessons for the first time, I recommend renting-to-own from Andrew's Fine Violins. It is about $20 a month, and I would suggest the rent-to own program, so your payment goes towards the purchase of a future instrument.
I do not recommend buying an instrument, because when they are young and still growing, they will be inevitably switching sizes.
If you would like to buy an instrument, I can give you a list of acceptable brands.
DO NOT BUY A VIOLIN OFF AMAZON. While I do not expect a Rolls Royce of a violin for a beginner, some cheap violins can not even hold a tune.

Meet The Teacher
-Miss Bethany
Miss Bethany is an enthusiastic, energetic, and fun-loving violin, viola, and voice teacher. She has taught violin privately for about 7 years.
She majored in music at BYU then pursued her graduate degrees when her own children were in high school.
Miss Bethany holds a Master’s Degree in Music Education, as well as a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance/Pedagogy from ASU.
She is also Wee Violin Certified, (a methodology specializing in teaching toddlers violin).
She is also working on her Suzuki certification.
Miss Bethany plays viola in the Millennial Choirs and Orchestras. She also also recently spearheaded The Prestige Quartet, a professional string quartet, serving the greater Scottsdale and Phoenix areas.
When she’s not teaching or planning epicly fun group lessons, Bethany enjoys spending time with her family, walking her silly doodles, making organic soudough, and playing pickleball.
FAQs
How Much Does It Cost?
$185/month for weekly privates and groups.
Privates are $31.25 each and the groups are between $15-20 each.
You have the choice to come to three or four classes in the month, and the flat rate for the month for groups is $60.
In total, it's $125 + $60 = $185
To give you a feel, other certified Suzuki Teachers in the Phoenix area usually charges anywhere from $70-$90 hour for privates.
What If We Miss A Class?
Life happens!
Unlike other music studios in the area, I allow for make-ups. I also gift each family one sick day, (not paid) per semester. Outside of the one freebie lesson, you are allowed to makeup any other times your child is sick. If you know about a conflict well in advance, (e.g. sister has a choir concert as the same time as your private lesson,) please let me know in advance and we will see what we can do to accommodate. I need atleast 24 hr notice for a lesson change time, if not more, please.
If you need to miss groups for any reason, your child is welcome to attend a different group time/session.
If Miss Bethany is sick or there's fall/spring break, she will roll over that lesson towards your May or December payment. She prefers to keep things simple and always have it be $185/month per family, and then any times she might owe you a lesson--those will be credited towards the last month of each semester.

Just come to the free intro/trial session and you'll get a really good feel for the supportive, encouraging environment Miss Bethany sets for the kids 🙂
My Child Isn't A Beginner...
Awesome!
A lot of students also come in already having some music experience from piano, some might have had experience with school orchestra class, or with another private teacher.
During the intro/trial session, Miss Bethany will get a sense of how far along your child is and find a good class for you that isn't a beginner class 🙂👍
Parental Involvement
Within the Suzuki Method, the framework is a triange between the child, the teacher and the parent. I expect parents to sit in on the child's private lessons (until they are in High School). Parents are responsible for helping their child to do their daily listening homework and encouraging their child to maintain the habit of daily practice as well. (I generally suggest however old the child is, that is the number of minutes they are expected to practice at home each day). Group lessons; parental attendance is not required, but they are welcome to attend and experience the fun and the joy.
Why Group Lessons?
Do we have to participate in group lessons?
There is SO much benefit from having group lessons! •Motivation — Kids practice harder when they know they’ll play in front of peers.
•More material, better paced — Twice-weekly instruction covers far more ground (scale patterns, rhythm, technique) than a single 30-minute private lesson can hold.
•Fun, game-based learning —statistically speaking, kids learn quickest by means of play. I see this first hand ALL THE TIME. Groups = faster progression!
•Confidence — Group settings normalize mistakes, ease performance anxiety, and sharpen intonation through regular ensemble playing.
If you live far away, Miss Bethany makes every effort to schedule your private lesson and group lesson back to back, so you aren't having to go to her house twice during the week.
When a student reaches High School, Miss Bethany does not require weekly group lessons. But, she will ask them to do longer weekly private lessons instead (45 minutes instead of 30 minutes).
Talk to Bethany if you have any special concerns for your child that would inhibit group learning; she is willing to work with you on a case by case basis. Privates alone would probably be longer so she can cover some of the group material in your child's private lesson. But, group learning really is in your child's best interest if it is at all possible.
I have a toddler that would like to play violin!
Hooray! That is SO exciting!!!
If you child is pre-K, I would suggest you enroll them in my Wee Violin group class. It meets once a week, and is $75 each month. (with a one-time $25 registration fee to cover materials such as book, tote bag, etc.).
We start with fun Mommy and Me group classes on box violins (no cost to you) and then if your child wants to get a real instrument and/or do 15 minute private lessons-- we can talk! Private lessons are held immediately before or after the group class and are only 15 minutes.
This is SO great for the child's brain development; even if you don't even intend for them to ever play violin when they get older--this class is such a fun, joyful gem!
